BLOG UPDATE: Organic Oranges Are Better

Four Years without TV

Well, somewhat without TV. I feel like I have more control this way, and it's a better deal.  Read on, you will know what I am talking about in just a few moments!

At the time that I met my husband for the first time, I did not have cable tv.  Just the three local channels, and that was it.  I would set up my vhs to record a 30 minute segment of The Bold and the Beautiful each day at 1:30, and would watch them all on the weekends, when I didn't have to work.  There was no high speed internet at that time, so what did I do with all that time?  Well, I socialized!  I talked to my would-be husband, of course.  We would go out, sometimes to dinner and a movie, and sometimes we would just drive, to see where it would take us.  We once landed in a rural area outside of Williamsburg, at a plantation, where we picked blueberries, blackberries and apples.  Sometimes we would spend our post working hours at Busch Gardens.  We did things.  Then, years later, we moved to NoVa (Northern Virginia) and our apartment came with free cable tv.  Well, I dont remember doing very much in NoVa.  Not much that didnt involve the TV, that is.  We did have some great friends, Amber and Justin, who lived 2 buildings over from us.  We would get together every Sunday for Sunday Dinner which included watching Desparate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy.  Often, we would also play games, such as Scattergories and Pictionary, and we would even assemble big puzzles depicting the Rat Pack, or Marylin Monroe.  These were good times, but I wish it had been more games with my friends and less staring at the boob tube.  We then moved to the Northern Neck, and of course had to have Direct TV hook us up before we moved in.  We were hooked.  Addicted.  After 6 months of terrible service (I would not wish Direct TV on my worst enemy) I realized, actually, we both realized that we didn't need the service in the first place!  5 years later, still in Northumberland County, where some might assume there is nothing to do, we find plenty to do.  Sometimes we enjoy accompanying our children to their sports practices, and other times we enjoy reading to each other from great novels like Little Women or Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers.  We still like our board games, though now it is Monopoly Jr, and Guess Who.  Occasionally, we will watch a little tv, in the form of Netflix, for a low monthly bill of $11.  And we are happier for it!
